Thematic Hubs
Hubs are thematic programmes that bring together datasets, biosamples, expertise, and infrastructure to tackle complex challenges in brain health. They accelerate discovery by making it easier to find, access, and use data at scale. DPUK provides the secure infrastructure, standardised data models and governance frameworks that allow hubs to focus on science and collaboration rather than building systems from scratch.

Case study: TBI-REPORTER
One of DPUK’s most successful hubs is TBI-REPORTER (UK-TBI REpository and data PORTal Enabling discoveRy). This national platform is transforming research into traumatic brain injury by bringing together:
Data Hub: centralised, curated clinical and imaging datasets available through the DPUK portal
Biomarker Resource: standardised biofluids, imaging, and tissue samples for biomarker discovery
Experimental Medicine Network: “Pathfinder Centres” offering trial-ready infrastructure for early-stage research
TBI-REPORTER is funded by the MRC, NIHR, Ministry of Defence, and Alzheimer’s Research UK. It has already been recognised with the Global Impact Award at the Neuro Rehab Times Awards for its achievements in uniting datasets and establishing clinical trial-ready networks.
